The bottom of my orchid stem is brown, but I still have my blooms. Have I cause crown rot?

Seraph asked:

The very bottom of my White Phalaenopsis Orchid stem is brown. But i still have three flowers on my stem. Someone had said that i caused crown rot and that i should give up on the plant because crown rot is usually fatal. The leaves are green and strong. The stem itself is green with some yellowing in it. Should I really give up on it and buy a new one? Or can this one be saved?
